Sheep

Origin

  • The Kingswood Sheep Program has been available since 1997. It was initially developed to meet the needs of the commercial sheep farmer who was individually tagging sheep and who required detailed management information, such as sire and ewe performance analysis.
  • Pedigree Recording was included for the pedigree flocks, simplifying the record keeping for such flocks.

Latest Developments

  • With the onset of the compulsory tagging as a result of Foot and Mouth, the program has been altered to store left ear tag, right ear tag, import tab plus tag colours for each. The program still retains the old farm tag for customers who already have their own farm tags in their sheep and want to continue for a period using their old farm tags as well as the new Department Tags.
  • Flock Register Report, giving printout of all sheep on farm, with left ear tag, right ear tag, place and date of purchase and place and date of sale/death.
  • The sheep option can be incorporated as an extra feature into the Kingswood HERD program, or can be purchased as a stand-alone program for sheep farmers who have no cattle.

Features

  • Designed for the Windows Operating System, Kingswood Sheep is an easy to use, but very powerful program for sheep records.
  • It stores the legally required details - ear tag details, tag colours, dates of birth, purchase and sales/death details.
  • Keeps full record for ewe's performance.
  • Full Lamb Performance analysis.
  • For pedigree flocks, full family trees maintained.
  • All Health Treatments recorded for legal and quality assurance purposes.
  • Program has a very powerful Sorting and Filtering facility, allowing the user to query the system in a very detailed way e.g. it is very easy to bring up all lambs from a specific sire, sorted by price.
  • A very powerful Report Generator built in, allowing the user to create many reports than the standard reports in the program.

Benefits

  • Cut down paperwork maintaining the new Flock Register = more time spent farming, less doing paperwork.
  • Identify best performing ewes = more profit due to selective culling of bad performers.
  • Identify best performing sires = greater profit due to selective use of best sires the following year.
  • Identify health problems = greater profit due to improved management to resolve persistent health problems.
  • Easy analysis of lamb performance (kill our percent, age at slaughter etc) = informed analysis of flock performance and management action taken if weaknesses identified = improved profit.
  • Full Pedigree Records = less paperwork for pedigree flocks + easy and quick access to pedigree data.
